    • Hydroxycut is a diet pill that was recalled from the market and reintroduced with a new formula due to health problems such as liver damage, seizures and cardiovascular disorders. The main ingredients are caffeine and ephedrine, but it also contains willow bark, L-carnitine tartrate, chromium picolinate, and hydroxycitric acid--from which it draws its name.

    • Hyrdoxycut helps with weight loss by acting as an appetite suppressant and by imitating and intensifying adrenergic hormones. When we eat carbohydrates, any extra carbs that we don't burn off go through an enzymatic process that turns them into fat. We have a chemical called citrate that occurs naturally in our bodies. Citrate slows down the enzyme that turns the extra carbs into fat. The hydroxycitric acid found in Hydroxycut is almost identical to citrate and is even more effective in slowing down the enzymatic reaction that turns carbs into fat than citrate is. Hydroxycitric acid also causes the liver to release more glucose into the bloodstream, and it's believed that the higher sugar levels are what suppress the appetite.

    • WebMD cites two studies about Hydroxycut that shows conflicting results about its effectiveness. One study showed that mildly overweight women who took Hydroxycut over 12 weeks lost 2 pounds more than women taking a placebo, but another study involving overweight men and women showed no difference in weight loss between the Hydroxycut group and the placebo group.
